Mahindra Ensures Warranty Support for Vehicles Using E20 Ethanol Fuel

As India transitions to 20% ethanol-blended petrol (E20) across nearly 90,000 fuel stations, Mahindra & Mahindra has reassured customers that all its vehicles are compatible with E20 fuel and will continue to receive full warranty support.

In an official statement, Mahindra confirmed that its engines meet current gasoline standards and can safely operate on the new ethanol blend. Vehicles manufactured after April 1, 2025, will be specifically calibrated for E20, ensuring optimal performance and fuel efficiency. Older vehicles may experience slight variations in acceleration or mileage, depending on driving habits, but remain safe for use. “As a responsible manufacturer, we will continue to honour all warranty commitments for vehicles using E20,” Mahindra said, underscoring its support for India’s sustainable fuel transition.

Mahindra Automotive CEO Nalinikanth Gollagunta acknowledged that E20 may cause marginal mileage reduction and lower acceleration, but assured that detailed advisories for customers and dealers will be issued soon. The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has also clarified that while fuel economy may drop slightly, there is no safety risk associated with E20.

The E20 rollout, introduced to reduce India’s fossil fuel import dependency, has stirred debate among motorists citing higher maintenance and reduced mileage. However, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari dismissed the criticism as misinformation from petroleum lobbies, emphasizing that E20 is both eco-friendly and economical, and crucial to India’s goal of energy self-reliance.
