American Banks Expand Hiring in India Amid Stricter H1B Regulations

Despite tightening H1B visa rules, leading U.S. banks are significantly increasing their hiring activities in India. With restrictions on foreign worker visas, these financial giants are shifting critical roles and establishing expanded operations in Indian cities. This structural change reflects a strategic move to maintain competitiveness and access to a highly skilled workforce.

Major banks like JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley are actively recruiting technical, risk, and finance professionals in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. JPMorgan, for instance, is hiring credit support specialists, while Goldman Sachs seeks loan review associates, showcasing a broadening scope of employment.

The migration is driven by high visa costs and stringent compliance norms imposed by U.S. immigration policies, which restrict the use of the H1B visa program. As a result, banks are increasingly relying on offshore Global Capability Centers (GCCs) to run functions such as R&D, IT, and financial analysis.

India’s talent pool, especially in STEM and finance, is a major factor. About 75% of approved H1B workers are from India, underlining the country’s importance in US banking infrastructure.

Some banks are even contemplating revoking U.S. job offers and relocating roles to India, signaling a long-term shift in global staffing strategies.

Overall, this trend not only boosts Indian employment but also positions India as a critical hub for top-tier financial services, driven by regulatory changes in the U.S. and economic incentives.
