Delhi to Seal Polluting Factories Without Prior Notice

The Delhi Government has announced strict action against industrial units violating pollution control norms, warning that all polluting factories in the national capital will be sealed without prior notice. The move comes as air quality in Delhi continues to remain in the severe to very poor category, raising serious public health concerns.

Senior officials said the decision is part of an intensified crackdown to curb industrial emissions, which are a major contributor to toxic air pollution during winter months. Enforcement teams from pollution control bodies, district administrations, and municipal agencies have been instructed to carry out surprise inspections and take immediate action against non-compliant units.

Factories operating without valid consent, using banned fuels, or flouting emission standards will face instant sealing, heavy penalties, and possible criminal proceedings. Authorities have clarified that no advance warnings will be issued, as earlier notices failed to deter repeat offenders.

The government has also directed industries to shift to cleaner fuels, install approved pollution-control equipment, and strictly follow environmental regulations. Units found violating norms despite previous warnings will be treated as habitual offenders.

Officials said the measure is necessary to protect public health and send a strong message that environmental violations will no longer be tolerated. Residents have welcomed the move, urging sustained enforcement rather than seasonal action.

The Delhi government reiterated its commitment to improving air quality through strict enforcement, inter-agency coordination, and long-term structural reforms, stressing that economic activity cannot come at the cost of citizens’ health.
