The state is positioning itself as a preferred destination for Japanese companies by combining infrastructure, policy reforms, skilled talent and a large consumer base, while expanding cooperation across green hydrogen, automobiles, technology, healthcare and advanced manufacturing.

Uttar Pradesh is seeking to deepen its economic and industrial engagement with Japan, with the state government positioning the country as a long-term strategic partner in its development and investment journey.

Addressing the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026 at Taj Palace, New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna said the strategic partnership between India and Japan is gaining fresh momentum, with Uttar Pradesh emerging as an important destination for Japanese investment and long-term industrial cooperation.

State highlights investment advantages

Khanna attributed the state's growing investment appeal to strong law and order, improving infrastructure, connectivity and investment-oriented policies. He said the state has strengthened its position among India's promising investment destinations under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The minister also highlighted Japan's expanding role in Uttar Pradesh, describing the country as more than an investor and emphasising its potential as a long-term strategic partner.

He welcomed the Japanese delegation led by Kotaro Nagasaki, Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, saying the participation of a large Japanese delegation reflects growing confidence among Japanese businesses in Uttar Pradesh.

Nivesh Mitra supports business expansion

According to Khanna, Uttar Pradesh's key strengths include its large consumer market, skilled workforce, improved connectivity, policy-driven governance and rapidly developing infrastructure. The state has also sought to streamline the process of setting up and operating businesses through initiatives such as Nivesh Mitra.

The platform has helped simplify business-related approvals and is aimed at enabling faster conversion of investment proposals into operational projects, supporting the state's efforts to create a more conducive business environment.

Focus shifts to high-growth sectors

The minister said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's recent visit to Japan has added momentum to industrial and institutional engagement between the two sides. The state is now looking to expand collaboration across sectors including green hydrogen, automobiles, advanced manufacturing, technology, innovation and healthcare.

Green hydrogen and advanced technologies are emerging as particular areas of interest, with Uttar Pradesh seeking to combine Japanese technological expertise with its expanding industrial base. The state believes such collaboration could support new investments as well as technology transfer and industrial innovation.

Partnership beyond capital investment

Khanna emphasised that Uttar Pradesh's engagement with Japan is intended to extend beyond conventional investment. The state is looking to build partnerships covering technology, innovation and industrial collaboration as part of a broader sustainable development agenda.

He expressed confidence that the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026 would further strengthen economic, industrial and institutional ties between Uttar Pradesh and Japan, while opening new avenues for long-term collaboration between Japanese companies and the state.
