UIDAI Rolls Out New Aadhaar Update Rules from November 1

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has rolled out new Aadhaar update rules effective November 1, 2025, designed to simplify, digitize, and modernize the update process for millions of citizens. Under the revised system, key demographic details — including name, address, date of birth, and mobile number — can now be updated completely online through the myAadhaar portal, provided the user’s registered mobile number is active. This marks a major step toward eliminating physical visits to Aadhaar Seva Kendras, significantly reducing queues, paperwork, and processing delays.

While demographic changes move online, biometric updates such as fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs will continue to require in-person verification at enrollment centers to maintain accuracy and prevent fraud. To improve security and efficiency, UIDAI will integrate automated verification using interlinked government databases like PAN, passport, and ration card records, minimizing manual errors and boosting trust in digital authentication.

The fee structure has also been revised. Online demographic updates will remain free until June 14, 2026, after which a ₹75 fee will apply. Biometric updates will cost ₹125, though certain age groups — such as children during mandatory biometric updates — are exempt for the first update cycle.

UIDAI has also reaffirmed the December 31, 2025 deadline for Aadhaar-PAN linking, warning that failure to comply could lead to PAN deactivation and disrupt tax-related transactions.

These reforms underscore India’s continued push toward digital governance and paperless services, balancing user convenience with security. By enabling online Aadhaar management and leveraging AI-driven verification, UIDAI aims to enhance data accuracy, reduce fraud, and deliver a smoother citizen experience in identity services.
